Folded Light is a site-specific video installation where a rotating video projection of light augments the physical space to excavate the possibilities of a dynamic hybrid space: physical and virtual, actual and fictional, architectural and projected. The project aims to alter the viewer's perception of the surrounding space.

The temporal evolution of the projection enables the formation of the light as an object, simultaneously illuminating the gallery space, and unveiling imagined spaces behind its walls. Folded Light addresses the mutability of the sense of visual perception, and intends to defamiliarize the perception of light as it moves through space. The project reflects on the temporal qualities of space, allowing the viewer to renegotiate her surroundings as the piece configuration evolves.

Light is the major element in the installation, used to blur and interconnect the boundaries between the two realms (actual and fictional). It signifies the threshold between the simulacrum space created by the projection, and the physical space where the viewer stands. Through the presented framework, the project intends to question the relativity of perception and how it informs the apprehension of our surroundings.
